Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult year, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt after March of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one various competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on court had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to create a final set.

He defended 4 initial opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
